The award ceremony was held as part of the pre-opening festivities of the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, one of Japan’s largest game festivals. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award (METI Award) is presented to a person, organization or project that has contributed to the development of the video game industry. Additionally, the Game Designers’ Award and the Grand Prize in the annual works category are also up for the taking at this award show.
Deputy Editor-in-Chief Krabbe, along with game translator Gavin Green, interpreted the awards ceremony and provided real-time coverage of the event.
The METI Award for the 2025 Japan Game Awards went to the Nintendo Switch 2, The Grand Prize in the Annual Award Category, which is selected from among the Excellence Award winners, went to “METAPHOR:Refantazio”. “INDIKA” was selected for the Game Designers’ Grand Prize.
