Vermeer and 17th Century Dutch Paintings from the Dresden National Gallery of Classical Art The Dresden National Gallery of Classical Art boasts one of Europe’s top-class collections of 17th-century Dutch and Flemish paintings. In Johannes Vermeer’s Woman Reading a Letter by the Window (c. 1657-59), an X-ray examination in 1979 revealed that the painting of Cupid had been smeared out on the wall, but it has been around for many years. , the painting has been thought to have been erased by Vermeer himself. However, the latest research results have been announced that the painting in the painting was erased by someone after Vermeer’s death. In this exhibition, a large-scale restoration project reveals Cupid’s picture in the painting, and Vermeer’s original appearance, “Woman reading a letter by the window”, will be unveiled at the Dresden National Gallery of Classical Art, which is the holding museum. It will be the first public release in the world. In addition, about 70 masterpieces of the golden age of Dutch painting such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Havriel Metsu, and Jacob van Leisdael from the museum’s collection will also be exhibited.
