At Sankei Digital, we have a dedicated team with deep expertise in the gaming scene and provide one-stop, effective marketing communications for games and esports. Recently, Daisuke Akimoto of our company, who heads our gaming consulting business, delivered a lecture for students at Iwasaki Gakuen Information Science College (an educational corporation) in Yokohama, Kanagawa, on the theme “Companies and Job Roles Surrounding Esports.”
Founded in 1927, Iwasaki Gakuen develops a wide range of community-rooted initiatives centered on vocational education. In one of its many departments and courses—the Advanced IT Systems Department, Esports & Game Development Course—students learn practical skills such as game development and esports event operations and broadcasting, cultivating talent to thrive in the industry. This lecture was held to help students understand how the esports industry creates market value through the involvement and collaboration of diverse companies and occupations, and to serve as a reference for their job-hunting activities in the industry.
Akimoto, who was invited as the lecturer, has previously worked in advertising sales for publishers, PC/device manufacturers, and other general companies, and has experience in livestreaming esports tournaments and producing programs. In his current role, he is also engaged in gaming consulting and advertising work, including esports.

At the start, Akimoto posed the questions, “Who do you think creates esports?” and “Think about who creates it for whom, for what purpose, and with whose money.” He explained that even a single tournament or event involves many companies working together—whether for profit, fans, or community building—to enhance its value, and he also provided an overview of the current esports market.
After outlining the companies and job roles that surround the market, he offered advice on the common skills required and “what you can do while you’re still a student.” In the Q&A session after the lecture, students asked about how to get started with video editing and streaming, jobs that involve working with esports players and manufacturers, and career paths into tournament operations. Akimoto answered based on his own professional experience.
Sankei Digital has staff with extensive knowledge of games and esports, who speak and appear at a wide variety of game-related events and programs. For details regarding event appearances or lecture requests, please contact the person in charge or reach out via the link below.
